Damage and Healing

Damage Roll

On a hit the attacker rolls their DAMAGE and the target rolls their STRENGTH attribute, plus any applicable bonuses like armour. These are compared to determine how hurt the target is.

Your strength attribute roll is not modified by your number of actions in the round or your levels of stunned or stun.

There are two types of damage lethal (the normal type), and stun. The damage from these is tracked separately.

Lethal Damage

Do not confuse the stunned status here, with stun damage effects

Calculation Description Effect
Dam < Str The damage roll is less than (but not equal to) the strength roll Stunned
Dam >= Str AND Dam < Strx2 The damage roll is greater than or equal to the strength roll, but less than double the strength roll Wounded
Dam >=Strx2 AND Dam < Strx3 The damage roll is greater than or equal to double the strength roll, but less than triple the strength roll Incapacitated
Dam >= Strx3 The damage roll is greater than or equal to triple the strength roll Mortally Wounded

Stunned

If you are stunned you will make skill rolls at -1D. If you are stunned again while stunned this becomes a cumulative -2D. There’s no cap to how high this can go. Your levels of stunned heal at 1D per round, done at the end of the round. You can have levels of stunned and be wounded at the same time.

Wounded

When you become wounded you immediately lose all remaining declared actions this round, and fall prone. While you are wounded your attribute and skill rolls are reduced by 1D (stacking with other penalties). If you are wounded again you instead become incapacitated.

Incapacitated

When you become incapacitated you fall prone and are unconscious. You cannot do anything until you are healed (though you can be roused to consciousness and st). If you are wounded or incapacitated while in this state you become mortally wounded.

Mortally Wounded

When you become mortally wounded you fall prone and are unconscious. You cannot do anything until you are healed. At the end of each round roll 2D. If the roll is less than the number of rounds you’ve been mortally wounded then you die.

Stun Damage

Blasters set to stun, certain types of brawling

Calculation Description Effect
Dam < Str The damage roll is less than (but not equal to) the strength roll No effect
Dam >= Str AND Dam < Strx2 The damage roll is greater than or equal to the strength roll, but less than double the strength roll 1 Stun
Dam >=Strx2 AND Dam < Strx3 The damage roll is greater than or equal to double the strength roll, but less than triple the strength roll 2 Stun
Dam >= Strx3 The damage roll is greater than or equal to triple the strength roll Unconscious

Stun ⇨ x STAMINAUnconscious

Stun

All die codes (except strength for damage resistance) are reduced by 1D for each stun result. If the number of stuns equals or exceeds your basic D code of stamina then you fall unconscious. e.g. a character with stamina 4D+2 can take three stuns and keep going, but falls unconscious on the fourth. Stuns are removed once you have a chance to catch your breath, or are healed in some manner.

Unconscious

An unconscious character is knocked out for 2D minutes. They awaken with any stuns removed.

What needs to be tracked?

  • Wounded Status: e.g. Wounded
  • Stunned Levels: e.g. -2D
  • Stun Ranks: e.g. -1D

The above unfortunate character has a total of -4D to their skill rolls, combining the -1D penalty of Wounded, with their stunned and stun amounts. They would only have a -2D to their attribute rolls however, as stunned levels only affects skills.

Healing

Healing Stun Damage

Healing stun damage can be attempted once per round per target with a medicine roll. No resources have to be consumed to do so, although expending a medpac will reduce the medicine difficulty numbers by 10.

Medicine Difficulty
Stun Ranks 1 rank removed on a 10, with an additional rank removed for each 5 beyond that.
Unconscious 20

Medpacs

A character may attempt a healing action with a medpac once per round per target. They must roll their medicine skill. Success downgrades the wounded status by one level: Mortally Wounded ⇨ Incapacitated ⇨ Wounded ⇨ Healed. A maximum of three medpacs may be used per day on the same person. Every use of a medpac past this will inflict a wound. Medpacs are expended when used.

Target’s Wounded Status Medicine Difficulty
Wounded 10
Incapacitated 15
Mortally Wounded 20

Rejuvenation Tanks

Target’s Wounded Status Heal Time
Wounded 2D hours
Incapacitated 2D days
Mortally Wounded 2D weeks
